Meet Dr. Abby

Dr. Abby is truly a pediatric dentist after a child’s own heart.

Her enthusiasm for working with children, and contributing to positive experiences has been a recurring theme throughout her years.

A Pearland native, she graduated from Pearland High School as Salutatorian of her class. She spent many summers tutoring children around the South Houston area, at Kumon Learning Centers, while also volunteering at nurseries at her local church, Second Baptist-Pearland. Dr. Abby then went on to complete her undergraduate education as a Helen Faison Scholar, at the University of Pittsburgh, on a full ride scholarship. She graduated summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Minor in Chemistry.

Upon graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, she was accepted into a competitive Pediatric Medicine, summer internship at the University of Rochester/Golisano Children’s Hospital where she studied “Access to Dental Care and Dental Health of Non-Diabetic Children.”She went on to attend the University of Texas-School of Dentistry at Houston, where she was honored, as an OKU Scholarship Recipient, due to her top 5 ranking during her first year of dental school. Dr. Abby graduated with her Doctorate in Dental Surgery, and successfully completed her Pediatric Dentistry Residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She obtained her Post-Doctoral Masters in Oral Sciences, and also completed the necessary written and oral exams, to be Board-Certified in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry.

She earned her official distinction as Diplomate of American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry in 2018.

Dr. Abby is happily married to her husband, Stephen, a Clinical Informatics Analyst, and youth pastor, who is also a Houston native. Dr. Abby is excited to use her knowledge, and skills to serve the community that helped mold her into the clinician she is today. She can think of no other way to truly give back, than serving the children and families of Manvel/Rosharon, and its neighboring communities. Go Mavericks!

First Pediatric Dental Visit

Dr. Abby and her team love working with children and are dedicated to great dental experiences.

We, along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry,

recommend you bring your child in by his or her first birthday.

During your first visit, you will be introduced to our Pediatric Dental Team, given an office tour and and given an opportunity to discuss your child's unique smile and ways to keep it beautiful for years to come.

Depending on the age of your child, he or she will either be given a knee-to-knee examination (where your baby’s head will rest on our doctor’s knee while their body is on your lap) or a regular exam in the doctor’s chair.

We request that you complete our First Visit Forms prior to arriving for your appointment. This helps our office keep your and everyone else’s scheduled visit on time.

Oral hygiene instructions will also be given with suggestions to help your child care for their own teeth. In most cases, we will also clean their teeth on this visit, and provide an evaluation that will outline any existing dental problems and proposed treatment.

We request that you complete our First Visit Forms prior to arriving for your appointment.

This helps our office keep you and everyone else’s scheduled visit on time.

Pediatric Dentistry

What is a Pediatric Dentist?

A Pediatric Dentist, like Dr. Abby, is a specialist dedicated to the oral health of children and the monitoring of their facial growth and development. Our office is designed for treating children from infancy through adolescence, as well as the medically and the physically compromised. In our opinion, taking your child to see a pediatric dental specialist is as important as taking them to see a pediatrician.

What is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist?

When a Pediatric Dentist is Board Certified it means that the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry or ABPD certifies that the dental care being provided is based on standards of excellence that lead to high quality oral health care for infants, children, adolescents and patients with special health care needs. Certification by the ABPD provides assurance to the public that a Pediatric Dentist like Dr. Abby has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to deliver quality patient care.

Establishing Your Child’s Dental Home

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry encourages parents and other care providers to help every child establish a dental home by 12 months of age. Establishing a dental home provides some key components to dental care for your child including...

  • Comprehensive oral health care including acute care and preventive services.

  • Individualized preventive dental health program based upon a caries-risk assessment.

  • Anticipatory guidance regarding growth and development.

  • Plan for acute dental trauma (emergencies).

  • Dietary counseling.

  • Referrals to dental specialists when care cannot directly be provided within the dental home.

  • Referral at an age determined by patient, parent, and pediatric dentist.
